The first day of classes can be daunting with the fear of the unknown; however, as an experienced first day of CSU attendee, I am here to help. The best recommendation for the first day is to make sure you plan to leave your home quite a bit earlier than anticipated because anything can happen.
One of the best things for us college students is that we get discounts all over our city. If you look around, you will see how fun Cleveland can be. Student Life hosts and promotes The City Is Our Campus Ticket Program. And, the attractions associated with the program are just a small sampling of what Cleveland can offer the college student.
To those of you expecting to live on campus, your dorm room may seem like a temporary place to live. While this is true, you will be spending 8 months of your school year (or more) in that room. It's important that you make that modestly sized white box you'll be calling home most of the year a place of your own.
With over 200 student organizations on campus, it is very easy to become involved in student life. From Engineers Without Borders to Latinos Unidos to Student Government Association, there is something for everyone at Cleveland State. One of the largest groups on campus, by far, is Greek life.
All those benefits that joining a Greek organization can provide are also available with other organizations. Although different groups are dedicated to different purposes and interests, all student organizations value making life lasting friendships and effective leadership.
So, you had to pay an extra $25 for something called a U-Pass. It is going to be like that every semester untill you graduate, so you better get used to it. But in the meantime, you might as well get some use out of that bus pass. At the beginning of each semester, there are students who will whine and moan about how they had to pay an extra $25 for something they will never even use, but you, my dear freshman reader, will be smarter than that.
An important component of the collegiate experience is part-time employment. As a student at Cleveland State University, you will soon find that most students have at least one part time job on top of their academic obligations. Many have three or four.
