Special SGA Meeting A special meeting of the Student Government Association (SGA) was called last Friday to appoint a temporary chair to the Investigative and Legislative Committee, as current chair Paul Patterson is under investigation himself. Vice President Peggy Thompson recently filed charges against Patterson, the speaker of the senate, after he edited a Board of Elections document regarding the results of the 2008 SGA election that was dispersed to the senate on April 18th.
On Tuesday, April 22, 2008, Barb Jarjisian, coordinator of assistive technology and visual strategies for the Berea City School District, spoke to a group of future special education teachers about the role of assistive technology in public school classrooms.
Campus publications have a tendency to stir up controversy. The Cauldron has generated its fair share of notorious articles over the years. Recently The Vindicator printed a column that stirred up debate around campus, especially with the Black Student Union (BSU).
Former US President Jimmy Carter is no stranger to criticism. His controversial meeting with the militant Islamist group Hamas two weeks ago only helped fuel that fire. Carter, the most prominent Westerner to formally speak with the organization, said he secured an agreement in which Hamas militants will cease firing rockets into Israeli cities and towns for 10 years if Israel withdraws from all of the land that has been under its administration since the 1967 Six-Day War, which saw Israel seize control of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip from Jordan and Egypt, respectfully, who had been controlling the territories since the 1948 Arab-Israeli War.
Last Wednesday marked the first annual governmental career jobs fair, which was held in the lobby area of the Urban Affairs building. The crowd grew larger and larger as students, both former and current, as well as professionals from the community took part in the career fair.
Dr. Rosemary Sutton, Professor in the College of Education and Human Services has recently been named Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies at Cleveland State. The new position, resulting from a reorganization that occurred last fall, is part of a division that is taking a holistic approach to undergraduate improvement, incorporating curriculum, advising, student life, and health and wellness.
