Student Excellence Recognized in Print

Last Wednesday Cleveland State students were recognized for the excellent essays they have written in the past year with a book release luncheon. The book is a compilation entitled "Essays: 2008-2009," and the department of English is responsible for creating it.

Professor Evan Lieberman presented "Atomic Anxieties" last Thursday in the Michael Schwartz Library; it was part of the common reading experience, which will be going on until Nov. 17. The common reading experience is centered on a play that all first-year students have been required to read.

Cuyahoga County Election Round-up

Cuyahoga County made a statement on Election Day, demanding a reformed county government in the immediate future, as opposed to waiting for a committee to determine the best course of action a year from now. The votes on issue five, which asked whether to institute a committee, and issue six, which institutes a new system with a single executive and an eleven-member council, showed near seventy-five percent in favor of immediate action.

CSU alumnus elected to North Royalton School Board:

New member is youngest in board history

Wading into local politics at age 23, Cleveland State University alumnus Dan Langshaw was recently elected on Nov. 3 to serve on the North Royalton School Board. Shattering a glass ceiling for the still youthful Millennial Generation, Langshaw is the current board's youngest member and to top that off, the youngest individual ever to serve on the board.

CSU Honors Staff Accomplishments at Reception This Thursday

This Thursday will be the 21st annual Scholars and Artists reception on the first floor of the university library at 3 p.m. The yearly event is held to recognize the accomplishments of CSU faculty, staff and emeriti. On display will be a collection of more than 130 recently published books, scholarly articles, a documentary, a music recording, websites, and other items.

Some don't even realize that they are given many opportunities to help pay for college, such as financial aid. Every year students should fill out a FASFA (Free Application for Student Financial Aid).

The Cleveland-Marshall College of Law has hosted a variety of speakers over the years. This past week, the emphasis was on women's rights and its impact on cities. The 2009 Joseph C. Hostetler-Baker visiting professor of law was Daphne Spain, who presented a lecture entitled "Women's Rights and the Shaping of the Postwar Metropolis.
