One of the many student organizations is the Viking Crew.

All those benefits that joining a Greek organization can provide are also available with other organizations.  Although different groups are dedicated to different purposes and interests, all student organizations value making life lasting friendships and effective leadership.

There are organizations that incorporate your major academically or professionally, provide religious support, are based on specific sports, are community service oriented, are based on cultural traditions, and are just for fun.  With all the different types of clubs at CSU, it is hard to find that nothing interests you.

If you want to get involved with how the student voice is heard at CSU within the administration, then the Student Government Association (SGA) is for you.  If being green is your passion, check out the Student Environmental Movement.

If you are looking for a club within your major, check out the specific clubs for engineering, accounting, marketing, social work, math, political science, physics, sociology, criminology, anthropology, nursing, occupational therapy, journalism, fine arts, advertising, graphic design, music, public relations, and medical students.  These organizations can provide you with study buddies within your major and classes as well as friends with common interests.

The religious beliefs abound at CSU, and so do the clubs that are based around them.  There are various Christian based organizations, the Cleveland State Hillel, the Cleveland State Pagans, the Hindu Student Association, the Muslim Student Association (MSA), and The Non Prophets.  If your beliefs are not incorporated into one of these organizations, there is the Multi-Faith Communities Council (MFCC) that is designed to help the various religions find the common ground where they can work together to benefit the community.

For those of you looking to play some sports competitively to continue from high school or to just get into a new sport, there are a few club sports to choose from.  CSU has the Viking Crew rowing team, a Club Basketball Team, a Track and Field Club, the Viking Cricket Club, and an Ultimate Frisbee club.  These teams compete with other universities near and far.  Some of the teams even go to regional and national competitions, such as the Viking Crew.

Groups like Viking Expeditions, Engineers Without Borders, the Young People's Initiative (YPI), and Social Work in Action are all involved in community service.  Also, Engineers Without Borders and Viking Expeditions often travel to their service destinations trying to make the world just a little bit better.

Some of the cultural clubs include Latinos Unidos, the Black Student Union, the Arab Student Union, Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Alliance (GLASA), Friends of India, and the Vietnamese Student Association.  These groups often are about raising awareness and sharing their culture with the students of CSU.

Clubs for fun would include the Swing Dance Club, the Sign Language Club, and the Anime Obsession Association among others.  Those last three are hopefully pretty self explanatory.

Being part of a student organization will help you enjoy your time at CSU while you are here for classes anyways and help you to more easily meet friends.  Maybe joining a club that might help advance your career is what you want or maybe you just want to meet some cool people and have fun.  No matter the reason, later on in life you will be happy you did it.
