Cleveland State University will host its fifth annual WellFest in the Student Center Ballroom Thursday, January 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The health and wellness event is intended to bring health awareness to CSU and its surrounding communities as well as provide resources for healthy eating, fitness, health screenings and alcohol awareness, according to the WellFest website.
"WellFest is a one-stop health extravaganza for all," said Sabrina Ryan, CSU's interim fitness and wellness director. "Now, more than ever, it seems that health is at the forefront of people's thoughts. Campus Recreation Services hopes WellFest will bring answers to the public regarding their health," she said.
Attendees will be offered free blood pressure, body mass index and apnea screenings as well as opportunities to test strength and flexibility. Free goodie bags will be available while supplies last.
Members of CSU's Recreation Center, Counseling and Testing Center, Dining Services, Health and Wellness Services, Human Resources, Residence Life, Student Life and the American Cancer Society Relay for Life team will be on hand to provide health and wellness information.
Sponsors, including the Cleveland Clinic's Outreach and Sleep Disorder Center, Kaiser Permanente, Medical Mutual, Metro Health System and the Cleveland Department of Public Health, will also be in attendance.
"It is so very important for students to manage their health and wellness because it will affect every aspect of their life now and in the future," Ryan said. "Health and wellness is not just about exercise and healthy eating, but also about managing your time well, balancing your life with work and social time as well as maintaining your mental and emotional health," she said.
