Tim Kamczyc symbolizes exactly what Cleveland State University's men's basketball team is meant to represent. On the court, the 6-foot-7 forward is a team player who will get in his opponents' faces and be physical.
Tim takes pride in the non-stat sheet qualities and is making his impact on CSU in more ways than one. Kamczyc is currently a graduate student with a major in International Business.
Cauldron: I assume you started playing basketball at a young age. When did you know you wanted to play in college?
Tim Kamczyc: To be honest with you, I started playing basketball as late as you could possibly think of it. I started around fifth or sixth grade.
CA: I learned that you were an All-State quarterback in high school. Was that your first dream?
TK: Yeah, I think since I was a kid, no matter what sport I wanted to play, I've had a dream of being a Division I athlete.
CA: When you are not setting screens, what are you doing off the court?
TK: I guess I am a normal person. I like to hang out with friends. I like to lift weights whenever I can; that is something I like to take seriously, which probably comes from my football background. Also classes—I am in grad school now, so it is a little different with all the night classes in my schedule, but it is just an adaption.
CA: What do you want to do after college?
TK: I think the main dream for everybody is to play somewhere after college...if it was possible for me to use basketball as a springboard to getting overseas, and then to build relationships and work my way into a corporate setting, [that would be] the main goal.
CA: It's your junior year, still one more year to go. Do you have a favorite memory with the guys in the locker room?
TK: The most obvious is when we won the conference tournament and NCAA Tournament. Although I didn't play, I was still a part of that team as far as being at every practice and traveling.
CA: What memories do you still want to create?
TK: I didn't get to play in the NCAA Tournament. As a red-shirt going from where I was, at Strongsville [High School], playing a lot of minutes, then coming here and having to sit out, was really tough.
My family and coaches told me to stay focused, and it has turned out to be really beneficial to me. The memory I want to create is that dream for myself and to have the opportunity to play in the tournament.
