Although classes came to a temporary halt on Dec. 16, Cleveland State University sports continued full force for the month-long winter break recess.

After defeating Butler 76-69 on the road Friday, Jan. 13, men's basketball accepted a tough 72-66 loss to Valparaiso on Sunday.

Leading the way for CSU was Tim Kamczyc with 18 points and four rebounds, while two other Vikings scored in double digits.

Men's basketball returns home with a record of 15-4 overall and 5-2 in Horizon League play.

On Saturday, Jan. 14, CSU's wrestling team swept all three of their opponents at the George Mason Patriot Duals. These victories over VMI (22-15), Davidson (31-6) and the Patriots (25-12) snapped a five-match losing streak for the Vikings as they improved to 6-9 overall.

Viking Corey Carlo led CSU with three match wins, as eight other Vikings won at least two matches each to lift CSU to their first match victory in over three weeks.

Both men and women's swimming and diving competed that same Saturday at the Oakland Tri-Meet in Rochester, Mich., defeating Xavier 155-82 and falling 142-101 to Oakland earned the Lady Vikings a split at the meet. The team currently stands at a record of 10-4.

Carys Behn had the first win for CSU as she emerged victorious in the 200 free in 1:54.05. CSU's Gretchen Hestley (1:57.16) and Jamie Puls (1:57.74) swam third and fourth place for the Vikings. All three found themselves in the top-five of the 100 free race.

The men's meet was a similar story, as they defeated Xavier 165-72 and fell to Oakland 134-103. After the split, the Vikings hold an 8-4 record.

Berry Thompson won both the 50 (20.95) and the 100 free (45.55) for CSU, and Josh Gonzalez picked up a pair of wins on the 1-meter (287.78) and 3-meter (314.93) boards.
